Local SEO for Med Spas: The Complete Guide
Local SEO for Med Spas: What Actually Works
Local SEO is the process of getting your clinic to appear at the top of Google when someone in your city searches for your treatments. This guide covers what matters most — and what you can do today to start moving up.
Step 1: Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile is the single highest-impact local SEO asset you have. It controls whether your clinic appears in the map pack — those three listings that appear before the regular search results and receive 44% of all clicks.
How to optimise it:
- Complete every field: hours, services, description, photos, booking link
- Add at least 20 photos of your clinic, treatments, and results
- Respond to every Google review within 24 hours
- Post an update at least once a week
- Use your exact business name consistently (no keywords stuffed in)
Step 2: Treatment-Specific Landing Pages
Every treatment you offer should have its own dedicated page on your website. Not a section on a long services page — a full page with its own URL, title tag, and content.
For example:
- yoursite.com/botox-[city]
- yoursite.com/lip-fillers-[city]
- yoursite.com/laser-hair-removal-[city]
Each page should be 600+ words covering the treatment, what to expect, results, pricing range, and a clear booking call-to-action. This is how clinics rank for specific treatment searches.
Step 3: On-Page SEO Basics
Each page on your site needs:
- A title tag that includes the treatment name and city
- A meta description that includes a benefit and CTA
- H1 heading with the main keyword
- Internal links to related treatment pages
- Schema markup (LocalBusiness and MedicalClinic types)
Step 4: Local Citations
A local citation is any mention of your clinic's name, address, and phone number online. Consistent citations across directories (Yelp, Healthgrades, ZocDoc, local business directories) signal to Google that your business is legitimate and local.
Ensure your NAP (Name, Address, Phone) is identical across every listing. Even small inconsistencies hurt your local rankings.
Step 5: Reviews Strategy
Google uses review quantity, recency, and quality as ranking signals. Clinics with 50+ recent reviews consistently outrank clinics with fewer, regardless of website quality.
The best time to ask for a review: immediately after the appointment when the client expresses satisfaction. An automated review request SMS or email sent 2 hours post-appointment converts at 3–5x the rate of asking in person.
How Long Does Local SEO Take?
For new sites with proper foundations: 30–60 days for early movement, 90–120 days for consistent rankings on target terms. For redesigned sites replacing weak existing sites: sometimes faster because Google is re-evaluating a much stronger signal.
The clinics that rank at the top of local results are not there by accident. They built the right foundation and maintained it consistently. That is all local SEO is.
